Gallery Yesulsum is holding a special \uc804\uc2dc\ud68c titled Yang Dal-seok: The Geoje \ud654\uac00 Who Painted Shepherds and Paradise. This \uc804\uc2dc\ud68c will showcase \uc791\ud488 by painter Yang Dal-seok, who established a unique fairy-tale realism in Korean modern and contemporary \ubbf8\uc220\uc0ac, depicting the lyrical sentiment and childlike innocence of his \uace0\ud5a5, Geoje \uc12c, and the Gyeongsangnam-do region. It will be a special opportunity to illuminate his pastoral utopian \uc138\uacc4 of painting.<\/p>\n

Geoje \uc608\uc220\uac00 Yang Dal-seok Featured in Special Hometown \uc804\uc2dc\ud68c<\/h2>\n

Gallery Yesulsum will host Yang Dal-seok: The Geoje \ud654\uac00 Who Painted Shepherds and Paradise, a special \uc804\uc2dc\ud68c, from April 1 to April 19, 2026, at Gallery Yesulsum Hall 2. \uc785\uc7a5\ub8cc to this \uc804\uc2dc\ud68c is free, and the \ubbf8\uc220\uad00 will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.<\/p>\n

This special exhibition is hosted by Haejo Eum \ubc15\ubb3c\uad00, Gallery Yesulsum, and Yang Dal-seok \ubc15\ubb3c\uad00, and organized by Art Corporation Gaia. The Geoje Culture and Arts \ud611\uc758\ud68c tentative name sponsors the \ud589\uc0ac. The exhibition \uc7a5\uc18c is located in Sodong-ri, Irun-myeon, Geoje-si.<\/p>\n

\ud654\uac00 Yeosan \u9ece\u5c71 Yang Dal-seok 1908\u20131984 was born in Seongnae \ub9c8\uc744, Sadeung-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do. He is recognized in the Korean modern and contemporary Western \ubbf8\uc220 \uc7a5\uba74 as the \ud654\uac00 of innocence and a representative artist of pastoral landscapes.<\/p>\n

After completing his studies at the Imperial Art \ud559\uad50 in Japan, he participated in numerous solo and group \uc804\uc2dc\ud68c. He served as president of the Busan Art \ud611\ud68c and was an invited and recommended artist for the National Art Exhibition. This exhibition will feature approximately 40 oil landscape \uadf8\ub9bc, portraits, and watercolors, including pieces from the collections of Haejo Eum \ubc15\ubb3c\uad00 and Yang Dal-seok \ubc15\ubb3c\uad00.<\/p>\n

Lim Ho-geon, \uad00\uc7a5 of Haejo Eum \ubc15\ubb3c\uad00, explained that \ud654\uac00 Yang Dal-seok used the rural \ud48d\uacbd of his \uace0\ud5a5 Geoje, along with \uc18c, shepherds, and \uc544\uc774\ub4e4, as main subjects to depict a peaceful \uc138\uacc4 where humans and \uc790\uc5f0 coexist harmoniously. The artist sublimated the suffering of reality into warm and pure images of childlike innocence, drawing from memories of his impoverished and arduous childhood.<\/p>\n

His \uc791\ud488 are characterized by simplified forms and soft \uc0c9\ucc44, conveying comfort and \uac10\ub3d9 to the viewer. The recurring appearance of \uc18c and \uc544\uc774\ub4e4 in his \uadf8\ub9bc carries symbolic meanings related to labor and life, hope and the future. This represents a pastoral \uc138\uacc4 that transcends simple rural landscapes, expressing innate human purity and a yearning for an ideal life.<\/p>\n
