Seongbuk-gu, a vibrant district in Seoul, is set to host its premier cultural event, the 18th Nurimasil World Food Festival: 'Taste of Earth,' on Sunday, June 7, throughout the Seongbuk-dong area. This year's festival offers a unique opportunity to explore diverse global cultures through food and raise awareness about sustainable eating amidst the climate crisis. Attracting some 60,000 visitors annually, the festival promises a wealth of attractions and entertainment.<\/p>\n

A Global Culinary Journey and Diverse Cultural Experiences<\/h2>\n

The Nurimasil World Food Festival is a celebration of cultural diversity, showcasing various global cultures through the universal language of food. This year, the 'World Food Chef' booths will feature traditional dishes from 26 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas, with participation from their respective embassies. The 'Sustainable Cuisine Chef' booths will host a 'Climate-Friendly Gastronomy Special Zone,' promoting ecological and food culture in the face of the climate crisis. Additionally, 'Seongbuk Top Chef' booths, involving over 20 local shops and organizations from Seongbuk, will underscore the value of local cooperation and shared growth.<\/p>\n

The Seongbuk Cultural Foundation has enhanced convenience for visitors this year by introducing a new QR code-based digital ordering and payment system, allowing guests to order and pick up food more quickly without long waits. Rest areas have also been significantly expanded to provide a more relaxed and comfortable dining experience. Furthermore, the Seongbukcheon Fountain Plaza will be utilized as an additional venue, featuring DJ performances in collaboration with the 'Dolgo Dol-a Seongbukcheon' community, further amplifying the festive atmosphere.<\/p>\n

From its inception, the Nurimasil World Food Festival has championed cultural diversity as a core value. Since 2022, it has become a model for eco-friendly, zero-waste festivals by fully adopting multi-use containers. Moving beyond symbolic campaigns, all festival participants, including food stalls, are mandated to use multi-use containers, distinguishing Nurimasil from other events. Designated return points for multi-use containers and separate waste collection areas are strategically placed throughout the festival grounds, enabling visitors to actively participate in environmental protection efforts.<\/p>\n

To enhance visitor satisfaction, the festival continues its 'food price cap' policy this year, limiting items to 8,000 won or less. This initiative aims to alleviate the burden of rising costs and improve accessibility to the festival. Moreover, with the safety of a growing number of visitors in mind, meticulous preparations, including the deployment of safety personnel throughout the venue, cooking safety inspections, and hygiene management, ensure the provision of safe and healthy food.<\/p>\n

The Nurimasil World Food Festival received the Golden Palm Award in the Festival Content category at the 5th Festival Management Awards held earlier this year, elevating its national standing. This recognition affirms Nurimasil's reputation as an outstanding regional festival across the nation.<\/p>\n

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, "In line with this year's festival slogan, 'Taste of Earth,' attendees can enjoy the diverse 'tastes' of global cuisine while also reflecting on the 'Earth' we share, encouraging everyone to enjoy it 'in their own way' (\ub9db\ub300\ub85c)."
