LG Energy Solution is accelerating its entry into the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) market, leveraging its unparalleled battery technology. The company announced its participation in ‘SDVerse,’ a global open marketplace platform for automotive software, making it the first battery manufacturer to do so. Through SDVerse, LG Energy Solution has unveiled five types of battery software optimized for the SDV environment.
Joining ‘SDVerse,’ a Global Automotive Software Platform
LG Energy Solution announced on the 3rd that it has joined ‘SDVerse,’ an open marketplace platform for automotive software, becoming the first battery manufacturer to do so. This participation marks a strategic move to accelerate its entry into the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) market.
SDVerse is the first B2B platform for automotive software, founded under the leadership of GM, the number one automobile company in the U.S., Magna International of Canada, one of the world’s top three automotive component manufacturers, and Wipro, a global IT service company from India. This platform is gaining attention as it fosters the software transformation (SDV) of the automotive industry by providing an open ecosystem where original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), major global component suppliers, and software developers can trade software in one space.
Five Battery Software Solutions Optimized for SDV Environments Unveiled
Through SDVerse, LG Energy Solution has unveiled five software solutions: Battery Platform Software, Safety Diagnostic Calibration Tool, Onboard FRISM, Onboard BLiS, and Onboard DASH. These solutions provide battery management functionalities optimized for the SDV environment.
The Battery Platform Software is designed to comprehensively analyze key battery status indicators, such as degradation and lifespan, and implements existing Battery Management System (BMS) technology for SDV environments. The Safety Diagnostic Calibration Tool performs safety status diagnosis and simulation verification based on battery data, helping companies minimize data leakage risks and secure competitive advantages in security by providing their own data analysis and operational algorithms.
Onboard FRISM (Cell Data Free State Diagnosis Model) is an algorithm-based software that estimates battery status based on battery field data and corrects errors using machine learning, accurately diagnosing battery degradation without relying on cell experimental data. Onboard BLiS (Battery Life Simulator) is an algorithm that numerically predicts battery degradation processes and estimates changes in battery performance under various conditions, simulating battery status based on physical models. Onboard DASH (Battery Degradation Reduction Strategy) is an algorithm specialized in managing the lifespan of electric vehicle batteries, analyzing the impact of user driving and charging habits on battery degradation rate and providing long-term battery usage guidance through real-time battery status checks.
Battery Software Technology Leadership and Leap as a ‘Total Solution Provider’
Through this participation, LG Energy Solution plans to solidify its position as a ‘Total Solution Provider’ and accelerate market differentiation by fully showcasing its accumulated battery service and software technologies in the SDV market. LG Energy Solution has demonstrated differentiated capabilities in battery software and service businesses, built upon over 20 years of BMS development know-how and more than 10,000 BMS-related patents.
The company currently operates ‘B.around,’ a BMTS (Battery Management Total Solution) business brand that provides cloud and AI-based safety diagnosis, degradation, and lifespan prediction solutions. It also offers a wide range of battery services, including ‘B-lifecare’ for continuous battery diagnosis and ‘B.once’ for one-time battery evaluation. Last October, the ‘Better.Re’ solution, a battery life improvement technology, won a ‘CES Innovation Award’ in the pure software category, marking a first for the battery industry.
Expectations and Vision for Leading the SDV Era
Prashant Gulati, CEO of SDVerse, expressed great pleasure in showcasing LG Energy Solution’s advanced battery management software, diagnostic technologies, and battery designs optimized for SDV. He praised LG Energy Solution for contributing to the acceleration of next-generation electric vehicle development by combining deep expertise in batteries with software-based intelligent systems.
Kim Je-young, Executive Vice President and CTO of LG Energy Solution, stated that he expects this participation in SDVerse will allow the company to present its leading battery software capabilities, developed over time, to a wider range of customers. Executive Vice President Kim emphasized that the company will further strengthen its technological leadership in preparation for the upcoming SDV era and drive the accelerated growth of the electric vehicle and battery markets.
Through its participation in SDVerse, LG Energy Solution is successfully establishing itself in the global automotive software market and expanding the scope of its battery technology.
