The acclaimed "Museum x Meet" program, which showcases unique stories of historic "최초" among 유물 held by 박물관 and 미술관 across South Korea, has been extended through June. This initiative offers more 관람객 the 기회 to delve into the origins of 한국 문화 and pivotal 순간, providing rich 문화 경험 through the distinctive 소장품 of each participating 기관.
"Museum x Meet" Shines a Light on "Firsts and Beginnings"
The 한국박물관협회 announced that "Museum x Meet," a flagship program of the "2026 Museum & Art Gallery 주간" promoted in collaboration with the 문화체육관광부 and 국제박물관협의회 한국위원회, will run until June. This 연장 allows 관람객 who may have missed the program in May to leisurely explore the diverse 소장품 and their embedded narratives at 박물관 and 미술관 nationwide. The "2026 Museum & Art Gallery 주간" offers a wide array of 문화 경험 across the country through various programs, including "Museum x Enjoy" and "Museum x Stroll."

"Museum x Meet" features 50 participating 박물관 and 미술관 from across the nation, each presenting a 대표 유물 that signifies a "최초." The program selects 50 such 유물 and shares their hidden stories and 문화적 가치 with 관람객. This year's theme, "Firsts and Beginnings," emphasizes 유물 that serve as the 근간 and starting point of contemporary 한국 문화, including the 최초 technologies used by humanity, 역사적 순간, and 창작물 that pioneered new 문화적 trends.

The 50 기관, selected through a 공모, actively plan and 운영 diverse 교육, 체험, and special 전시 programs centered around these unique 유물. These programs go beyond simple viewing, allowing 관람객 to directly 체험 and understand the 역사적, 과학적, and 문화적 narratives embedded in the 소장품. It is anticipated that these programs will provide meaningful 기회 for 관람객 to discover new beginnings and 경험 the profound depth of 한국 문화.
Ham'an Museum's "Star Map Capping Stone": Ancient Aragaya's Astronomical Insights
For the "Museum x Meet" program, the Ham'an 박물관 is featuring the "Star Map Capping Stone," excavated from 고분 No. 13 of the Malisan Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This stone slab, which covered the ceiling of a 석실 in a 고분 from the 후반 5th century during the peak of the ancient Gaya confederacy state, Aragaya, bears 191 star etchings. It is the only ancient star map identified in the 한반도 남부, serving as crucial evidence of Aragaya's advanced 천문학적 and 과학적 지식.
Its academic significance is particularly high as it is the 최초 confirmed depiction of a star map from a Gaya 고분. It offers invaluable insights into the 천문 사상 of the Aragaya people and the patterns of 천문학적 문화적 exchange in East Asia during that 시간. The Ham'an 박물관 has created a dedicated 공간 called the "Star Gazing Room" for this 유물, providing 관람객 with a 몰입형 연출 through a screen projection that visualizes the star constellations.
Kim Hye-min, a 학예사 at the Ham'an 박물관, expressed her hope that the "Star Gazing Room" would not merely display the 유물 but also allow 관람객 to quietly contemplate the constellations on the capping stone, connecting the 과거 and 현재. She emphasized that the stars observed by the Aragaya people 1,500 years ago are the same stars we see today, hoping the "Star Gazing Room" will be remembered as a 공간 that links the skies of the 과거 and 현재, and the hearts of people.
Yangju Municipal Chang Uc-chin Museum of Art's "Animal Family": An Artist's Innocence and Daily Life
The Yangju Municipal Chang Uc-chin 미술관 is participating in the program with "동물가족," a 벽화 personally painted by 작가 Chang Uc-chin on the 벽면 of his Deokso studio. This 벽화, depicting a cow, chickens, pigs, and a dog gathered like a 가족, beautifully captures 작가 Chang Uc-chin's unique pure and simple 감성. The fact that it was carefully removed from the 벽면 of the Deokso studio, which was 철거 예정, adds even more special 의미 to the 작품.
The simple and serene depiction of the animals conveys warm relationships where they lean on each other. The solitary figure of the dog, however, offers a glimpse into the 작가 고독 and 내면 as he devoted himself to his 작업, separated from his 가족. The display of 실제 ox nose rings and bells alongside the 작품 vividly conveys the 정서 of that era, making it a 독특한 매력 of this piece.
Kim Myeong-hun, a 학예사 at the Yangju Municipal Chang Uc-chin 미술관, explained that "동물가족" faithfully embodies 작가 Chang Uc-chin's approach to 생활, where 예술 and 일상 converged. He added that the 작업, moved from the 벽면 of his Deokso studio, contains traces of the 작가 생활 and 작업, and the humble animal figures convey warm 정서 amidst 일상.
