Blackyak Launches Korea's First T2T Material Products, Leading Sustainable Fashion

Blackyak, a high-performance premium outdoor brand, has launched new products featuring T2T (Textile to Textile) material based on chemical recycling technology, a first for the Korean outdoor industry. Through T2T technology, which molecularly recycles synthetic fibers from waste clothing and fabrics, Blackyak is building a sustainable clothing circulation system, offering an advanced solution to environmental problems, and setting new standards for the fashion industry.

Blackyak (Chairman Kang Tae-sun), a high-performance premium outdoor brand, announced on the 10th that it has launched new products incorporating T2T (Textile to Textile) material based on chemical recycling technology, a first in the Korean outdoor industry. T2T is a 'fiber-to-fiber recycling' method that breaks down synthetic fibers from discarded clothing or fabrics into molecular units and returns them to their original raw material state. This technology is gaining attention as a key method for establishing a sustainable clothing circulation system, as it allows for dye separation and can produce high-quality materials comparable to new products even after repeated recycling. Building on its success in establishing a 'Bottle to Fabric' resource circulation system using discarded domestic PET bottles in 2020 and being the first in Korea to commercialize such products, Blackyak is now expanding its scope to the T2T sector, leading the way in building a domestic fashion circular ecosystem.

The products Blackyak launched, targeting the upcoming summer, that feature T2T material are the 'BAC Ice Round Long-Sleeve Tee' and the 'BAC Layer Hoodie Long-Sleeve Tee'. Both products are manufactured using raw materials sourced through a global supply chain to ensure stable quality, and they retain Blackyak's signature outdoor performance characteristics. By incorporating Askin yarn, a cooling functional material, they provide a refreshing feel and offer moisture absorption and quick-drying capabilities, keeping wearers comfortable during various outdoor activities like running and hiking. Notably, the BAC Layer Hoodie Long-Sleeve Tee features an integrated balaclava structure, ensuring a stable fit without slipping, thus enhancing mobility.

Blackyak plans to continuously expand its T2T lineup, starting with its T-shirt product range. Furthermore, they are accelerating the development of high-performance products in collaboration with global material partner GORE-TEX, with a launch targeted for the latter half of this year.

In line with trends in the global fashion industry, Blackyak will also pilot the Digital Product Passport (DPP) system, which electronically discloses and manages the entire product lifecycle, including production, sales, use, and recycling. The European Union (EU) has not only actively promoted T2T but has also announced the mandatory implementation of DPPs, which are clothing passports that go beyond simple labels to certify a brand's technological capabilities and environmental responsibility.

Blackyak stated that this commercialization is significant as it presents an evolved solution to environmental problems that the 'Bottle to Fabric' resource circulation system alone could not fully address. Blackyak, which has consistently developed eco-friendly products using its technology, pledged to continue its best efforts in research and development to contribute to building a circular fashion ecosystem.
